Pinder's Preamp

Pinder's Preamp

2007-06-15 by Bernie

I just got the Moodies' BBC CDs today and have been listening to a few
tracks. Pinder's MkII doesn't sound like the Pindertron, but more like
the early Crimson Tron. At what point did he start using the solid
state preamp?

Bernie, you can hear the difference in the songs on the second DC, especially the last several. The Mellotron has a much bigger, kinda ballsier sound. You can definitely tell that the EQ has changed.

"DC?" When you play one, does it say stuff like "I killed Paul?"

No, but it does say, "I'm lying in a stairwell in Helsinki." or something like that.

Didn't he have a couple of Mk2s? Perhaps he had a studio machine and another to gig -
perhaps that's part of the sound difference. I don't know, just curious.

I believe the statement was made recently to the list that there were a
total of four Mark II Mellotrons used by the Moody Blues. Include the big
Chamberlin and the two Moraz Mark V instruments, and that should be the
total of the tape replay instruments used by the band, right? Any others?
