Sad news indeed my friends.
Buried somewhere beneath the latest Big Brother stories and much other non
news in our newspapers here in the UK you'll find a story that will sadden
all of us brought up during the seventies listening to the likes of Elton
John. Legendary producer Gus Dudgeon and his wife were killed in a car crash
on the M4 motorway over the weekend.
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player are
still my favourite EJ albums. Both produced by Gus Dudgeon and both featured
some great Mellotron. All respect to a man who had the vision to use the tron
in a commercial situation seeing beyond the "Prog Rock" tag it had been
given.

Absolutely! I can't believe how little coverage there's been about GD's
death.
I see there's a small tribute at eltonjohn.com

As I write this, I'm playing the DVD "Classic Albums-Goodbye Yellow Brick
Road." I don't know if it's available in the States, but it's well worth
buying if only to get a glimpse back through time at a team of musicians at
the top of their game. There's load of original footage of the recording
sessions. Gus Dudgeon takes the viewer through some of the multitracks of the
songs giving a terrific insight into the way he worked.
It's a bit spooky, watching this whilst knowing he's no longer with us. But
somehow it seems that in keeping with other talented people who've moved on.
Their work seems to only become fully appreciated once they've gone.
Shame that.
