He's faking it Jeff. They are playing along to prerecorded tracks. That's
actually an organ he's sitting at. No Mellotrons are present at this show. One
of the saddest videos ever.

Looks like an organ (that can sound like a piano and a Mellotron). I detect
backing tapes and miming...

Two of the saddest videos ever. Have You (ever) Heard a band so far
out of tune?
They were a great band to see live back in the day (except for RT).
This doesn't show them in a good light at all.

(Heh-heh, you believe they were thinking of you when they filmed
this?)

Mike Pinder explains it somewhere on his web site
(http://www.mikepinder.com). The Moodies are miming to the
instrumental tracks of the recording on this, but the vocal tracks are
real. The keyboard not a Mellotron, it's a Hammond A3. (Hey, at
least the Hamond A3 is shaped roughly like a Mellotron; imagine if
they only had a Farfisa Combo Compact available.) And I don't think
the bass is plugged in.

Back when this film was made that approach was very typical, just as
in the MTV 80's dancing to a playback of the song in front of a camera
was typical. After all, the Moodies were considered a pop singing
group at the time, and this film probably wasn't intended to be a
definitive cultural reference.
