Genesis SACDs 1976 - 1982

Anyone here got the remixed Genesis SACDs yet? All digitally remixed into
5.1 and sounding wonderful and squeaky clean, I got mine yesterday. I would have
thought that if you heard them, they might well provoke some discussion
here.
IMHO they do sound wonderful for their age, though I would urge you not to
get rid of your original CD copies if you have them, as apparently the new
versions will be the only ones you'll be able to buy new from now on. (Though
thankfully there'll always be Ebay}
The reason I'll be keeping my original remasters is that in general I still
prefer the overall sound of these. Why, I don't know except to say that the tron
seems to be better treated way back when. On the new versions, it sounds a bit
weedy in places and mixed well back.
Case in point, Entangled. One of my all time favourite Tron moments ever,
just doesn't happen in the same way as it does on the original. The choir just
isn't as big as it should have been. Also Mad man moon also on ATOTT. The lovely
strings of the original just don't sound as sweet. Don't get me wrong, the news
isn't all bad by any means. Elsewhere it all sounds rather lovely. Nick Davis
has done a great job overall. It's said that Tony Banks had a huge influence on
the mix, and we all know what he thinks of the machine! Where was Steve Hackett
when you needed him?
Still, go and buy. The experience of listening to these in surround is a
joy.
Not better, just different.
