MONEYPIT September 2006 Report
2007-03-11 by Ken Leonard
Another MONEYPIT report is up! In September the Mellotron Ranch played host to a gathering where we unveiled TWO Mellotrons that were owned by former keyboard players for the Moody Blues. - Mark V #5/104, formerly Patrick Moraz's backup machine, now owned by Jon E Salley - Mark II #210, formerly Mike Pinder's, now owned by Jon Lupfer of QDivision Studios in Somerville, Massachusetts, USA (which is in the Boston area). The Moraz machine had its original case thrown away years ago, and its new case is quite heavy and rather tall. The Mark V electronics were modified, but they are now back to spec., and other repairs/adjustments were made to the machine. No cosmetic work was done, so it looks pretty much the way it did when Patrick used it. The former Pinder Mark II was in good shape in general, and most of it was there. As with Frank Samagaio's Pindertron, attempts were made years ago to quiet the noise in the machine, and, yep, the tape heads were miswired. All that has been corrected, and Mellotron Professor Jerry Korb worked out some other Mark I/II modifications to quiet things down. Most of the work done on the Mark II was in the electromechanicals, although some work was done on the cabinet to fix some missing veneer. All this and more is in the MONEYPIT SEPTEMBER 2006 REPORT!
