Moody Blues In Concert?

Moody Blues In Concert?

2007-01-12 by bayofkings7

OK, I may get ripped for this ...

I am a huge Tron fan ... particularly the works of Tony Banks, Rick
Wakeman, and King Crimson; Steve Hackett (my hero) thankfully loves
the Mellotron. However, I have never really gotten into the ..

Moody Blues ...

(ducks and covers)

Granted, I have heard a great deal of their stuff (I managed a record
store in the 70s), but they never really gripped me like Genesis did.

Anyway, they are on tour, and will be in Tulsa, OK (my home) on March
1st (my birthday). Would it be worth my going? I looked at their
website, but did not get much info from that. Besides Justin, I'm
not sure who is left.

I do not expect a Tron-a-thon, but it may be some jolly good fun.

Any comments?

Tom

Well, right you are, you won't hear much mellotron, because I don't think they have used one in quite a while.
But then again - do the other blokes on your list use one anymore?
Go if you want to hear Justin sing those tunes and John Lodge back up with bass and falsetto.
otherwise...

It will be kinda like looking at pictures of a naked Farah Faucett taken this year. It's still her, but not as she once was.

Now they use samples.
Lodge can't hit the high notes anymore. They have a female that sings those parts and plays flute as I recall.

John, how the hell are you? Still playing that 400 of yours?

In response to the comment about the Moody Blues using a female back-up
singer to hit the high notes, for about twenty years they had been using
two female back-singers. When Ray Thomas retired, they replaced him
with a female flute player whose inspiration for picking up the flute
was "Nights In White Satin". Now she gets to play it on stage. Talk
about living a dream. (-8 She also contributes background vocals (and
occasional guitar) so the band is down to one female back-up singer who
has been playing more and more keyboards the last few tours.

So you miss the former duo of back-up singers desparately trying to come
up with choreography (-8, but you still get the high harmonies and more
music.

No Mellotron, but can you really tell in a hockey rink?

Alas, no Ray Thomas songs since he retired.

They've found their niche. They are playing for the fans. Every tour
is a greatest hits show.

Next time they come to Michigan, I'll be there.
