While glancing through the comments on the video page, it appears that this was the rear two tracks from a vintage Quadrophonic recording that was stripped by some method I know nothing about, and that the reason it sounds so poor is phase problems resulting from the process of only recording the rear tracks. Martin, your comment would seem to indicate that Mike had whatever the standard set of M4 tapes was? No custom tapes?
