RE: [Mellotronists] Moodies on the Dime.....

2006-07-20 by David Jacques

I am listening to that concert now. Pretty amazing for some cat with a tape
recorder in the audience. It's in mono and pretty compressed, but what do
you expect? Someone should do a Fripp and remix/master these tapes like
Fripp did for the live King Crimson 1969 CDs.

The one thing that amazes me about this concert is the wonderful virtuosity
of Mike Pinder. These are not the carbon copy orchestral lines he played on
the records. They are wonderfully composed and brilliantly performed. It
sounds as if he uses the mix of Flute/3 Violins 80% of the time, but he has
some wonderful surprises too... Like in the break for Legend of a Mind he
switches to Hammond Organ for much of the comp behind the flute.

The tron is RIGHT up front. In fact, it is the loudest instrument in the
band (thank god).

Listen and ENJOY!!!!

Hi all....

For those folks who are unable to log on to Dime-a-dozen to grab the Moody
Blues in Japan recording from January 22, 1974, try these links to hear the
samples:

en.org/attachments/104039/1210882/SampleHave.mp3

The samples sound pretty good for an audience tape, and Pinder-era Moodies
live stuff is pretty rare I guess...
(Do board tapes of that era circulate??)

Keep trying to get a spot on Dime-a-dozen. Sooner or later (usually within
the day), you'll be able to join and download their wonderful catalog of
live shows...
I've picked up some miraculous stuff on that site....

I can burn copies sometime next week of the MBs in Japan for those unable or
unwilling to go through the Dime ordeal....
(I'll be off-line for 3-4 days, so be a bit patient....)
