[Mellotronists] Re: Tape question

2002-05-13 by tronbros@aol.com

Bernie asks:

<<How many versions of the masters are there?>>
Bernie, there's DK and us plus a set of 4 track masters not in either of our
possessions
.
<<Are the tapes that are available from mellotron.com a generation older than
Streetly's masters minus the pops, clicks and pitch variations?>>

DK did remaster his tapes but we're not sure if these are the ones still in
use as we haven't heard recent production. We never mess with our tapes
unless absolutely forced to. Sometimes a note may be too dropouty(new word -
make a note) to let through but this is extremely rare. We record at the
level of Les's originals and at the original azimuth - non standard in
everyway. We are catering for the original 2000+ machines out there and this
prevents a modern rethink. All those recordings you are discussing with such
passion(no, there's no 'tron on Anal Atrocity by the Lactating Spinsters)
were made using the warts an'all tapes from the heady days when some of you
were still gestating. We still use these with no complaints....so far.
Dickson?
