Hello All: They certainly are Mellotron MK II strings. I have a copy of the Brute Force Album, (which sounds a lot like kindergarten piano sing-alongs to be honest) but has some cool mellotron bits in that song as well as funny lyrics (mighty mighty fuh-king) It was probably George Harrison's MK II as he was the one responsible for signing Brute. There's another rare Apple 45 called "Road To Nowhere" / "Illusions" by Trash that might have some tron as well, though I'll have to give it another listen. I also remember strings in the "Maybe Tomorrow" album by The Iveys (they were called Badfinger in the 70's) which might also be mellotron. If so, it's played the way the Bee Gees / first Genesis album / Hollies used it which is single lines of '3 violins' in the upper registers with high treble / lots of reverb - much harder to recognize as tron when it's played like that. Sounds more like a real string section. This also necessitates another listen if I can dig it up. Another Apple album with interesting tron is the Wonderwall soundtrack by George Harrison (no doubt where Oasis got the name). MK II strings abound in "Greasy Legs" as well as the Dixieland rhythms in the track "Drilling A Home". The movie is very much of it's time (1968) but great to crash out on the couch to after having one too many!
