R. Blechta writes: "Favourite mellotron moment............. The first 2 notes of In Wake of Poisiden by King Crimson. Anyone else agree?" I certainly do, though I would add the next 6 as well. When I visited Fripp at his country villa in January 1999 and we were standing around MkII #013, I mentioned to him that ItWoP was my favorite (favourite?) tron tune, and to my amazement, he indulged me by proceeding to play these first 8 notes, and then said something to the effect, "it is quite a lovely tune, isn't it". I recall, grinning ear to ear, urging him to play more but he promptly shut off the tron, and quickly turned the subject to ProjeKcts, etc. I'm still amazed he was able to step forward, right after Ian Mc left the band, and write/record such a lush opus as ItWoP. Unfortunately, Crimson never played this song live and RF has absolutely no desire to revisit this era. Picked up my tickets to catch The 21st Century Schizoid Band at the Canterbury Festival in August. I figure this is about as close to seeing the original Crimson as I'll ever get. Anyone else going? It's the summer of prog reunions. Also psyched about making an excursion to NearFest in late June to catch Nektar, with Mr. Synthesizer himself, Larry Fast. Whoppee! Rob
