Having watched all of the Mellotrons come up for sale, and coveting everyone of them, it seems that for ever bonifide, legitimate instrument that goes on eBay, a duplicate listing is posted weeks later. I doubt that mellotrons are the only item subject to such blaspheme, however, I doubt any other item on eBay inspires as much loyalty. I never did follow up on the Bay Area mellotron. I did speak with the owner over the phone, and I'm very confident that it was a legit sale. The heap o' tron (not to be confused with the Uriah Heap 'tron) slipped away from my bidding range in the last minute of the auction. That instrument went for over $1500 - which is more than I paid for my Jeep (...though less than I paid for either of my drumkits...) It seems the mellotrons are kind of like Cabbage Patch kids (to make a very bad, mid-80s American-pop-culture reference) Each one has its own unique story and, eventually, you end up with the one that was intended for you. ...ok, enough of the new age crap.... I deserved that damn Uriah Heap 'tron. Hell - I have a picture with Lee Kerslake to prove the magnitude of my fan-dome. A tape rack with David Byron's feeble attempts at mimicking Ian Gillan would have been very interesting. ok, I'll shut up now. quite a rant, esp. after finishing a gig and having my fill of American swill (budweiser)... -jh --- mellotrongirl <mellotrongirl@...> wrote: > Interesting no one hit on recent Mellotron units presented > on eBay > these days (yet then again, there's the damaged unit that > did > apparently sell, so hopefully we'll be updated by > refurbishing stories > from time to time in the near future...or it will be > presented as > either a planter or an end table on eBay down the road).
