Re: [Mellotronists] Philly workshop....

2004-12-14 by Ken Leonard

Hey Boggs,

Good to meet you - although I think we exchanged about four words total. I
was a little busy. :-)

It was a lot of fun to demonstrate the Mellotron there at The Gatherings,
but in thinking about it I had more to do/show...plus we had those awesome
songs practiced up oh so thoroughly and didn't have time to play
them! (whew!) Oh well---maybe there'll be another one of these at some point.

Oh - Don't forget Gino and Brad, too!

The overall night had the intro from Chuck Van Zyl (who runs The
Gatherings), then an intro from Jeff Coultier. We then had Jerry Korb's
history discussion followed by a break. I then explained all the parts of
the M400 and assembled #1037 for whoever was interested while others went
and listened to the 3 working (or kinda working :-) ) machines and their
sounds with Jimmy, Gino, and Brad. I got #1037 set up on sawhorses
"working" to a round of applause, although the pitch control wasn't working
and the motor was running too fast---a problem he had before and it's
baaa-aaaaack. Then we were just about out of time, and Chuck closed out
the evening. We then had less than 1/2 hour to break down what we did and
get the vans loaded. Roadying---feh!

I will have a couple of pictures on the web site...uhhh...eventually. :-)

Jerry and I just got back to Boston---uneventful drive, thankfully (and a
very pleasant route---totally avoiding the New Jersey Turnpike---thanks,
navigator Jerry!). We'd like to thank Jimmy, Nancy, and family for putting
us up (and putting up with us) and for the help with the equipment and
transportation.

#1037? Well, stuff happens. At least 2 1/2 'trons out of the 4 worked. :-)

Brad's Novatron is clean as a whistle and played very well.

...kl...
#805 - didn't make the trip
#1037 - runningtoofastandcan'tslowdown
