Closest experiences I know of about Mellotrons and  heat-sources
were observed in Tronto-2000 and Philly-2001. ....and more recently....

During initial evaluation/test, SFX/6's   RH cycling motor did emit
wispy puffs of smoke seconds before overheating and expiring.
Not to worry, "we can rebuild him......Better,stronger, faster......."
