Greetings Gang,
To add a bit more background to the incredible Webpages
of KL, MONEYPIT had its humble beginnings in 1998 with
the visit of KL and KM for the weekend. The moniker immed.
was approp. How many people in the world are willing to
invest loads of dosh in quirky musical instru. 30-40 years old ??
50's era cars yes, but a little white box often filled with "black rice" ?
Though the name MONEYPIT implies membership or
residency in New England, this isn't written in granite.
Thru these 6 years, we've been to
Toronto twice, Philly Workshop once, and many many
more visits to each other's digs for Mellotronist's
Hunchback or Cycling Sciatica. WHY do we do this ?
"Have Wobblies, Will Travel" ......Sorry Paladin !
I originally hailed from NJ , where the Mellotron first
landed for general sales/dist. Though NJ is much maligned
and joked-about ("Joisey, what exit ?" ), I must
support my region of it ,which abounds in early techno
innovations (Edison,Tron sales, canals, etc). I'm sure those NJ
members on our List ( I know of at least 9 ) will agree.
Just take a look at Larry "Synergy" Fast's latest CD,
"Reconstructed Artifacts." Composed/recorded entirely
in Morris Cty, the CD artwork is full of pix of early things electrical.
Incl. an Edison voltmeter on front cover....'Nuff said......
Then I moved to CT. Did I follow the Tron or vice-versa?
Dunno.... I just happened to be 1/2 to 1 hr. away
from Sound Sales' three locations, and Bomar's digs
in Southbury. Just as I was when in Bergen Cty ,from Dallas
Arbiter in Mahwah and Allendale .
MONEYPIT implies a feeling of community. We're kindred spirits
all committed ( & we SHOULD be!) to a common cause
for preservation and the use of these unique instruments.
Where else can you find people ages 20 to mid 50s,
all backgrounds, careers, personalities, etc . unified like no other ?
By KL's orig. definition underscored above, we ALL belong
to MONEYPIT .
Take your time perusing KL's Webpages, I'm sure they'll
entertain , amuse and inform , all simultaneously. From the
Canadian Border all the way to Tijuana MX, MONEYPIT LIVES !!
Ciao, JKMessage
