<< Alternatively, any recommended changes to the ua741 design? >> I can't believe what I'm reading- was there really a version of the pre-amp based on a 741? I only ever saw these things being used in fuzz-boxes.... if I could lay me hands on the pin-out, I'd recommend a drop-in replacement. whatever, there are many superior op-amps that would give better audio performance than a 741; the tl071c & the ne5534 have turned up in many high-end audio devices including studers & neves..... duncan/1098 (no hiss, no hum) p.s. ta, ken, for the write-up. some nice pics on y'r site too.
