Hi Owen / All:
My experience is that the Mellotron does add it's
own colour to the sound. I would say that's the main appeal (or drawback
depending on your point of view). Chamberlin sounds in a Mellotron don't
sound like a Chamberlin to me at all. It still sounds just like a Mellotron.
There's a bandwidth difference between Mellotron and Chamberlin heads
(the M1's anyway) and the differing distances between pressure pads, pinch
rollers, and capstan probably factor into that as well.
Hope this helps.
Hi All
2) To what degree does the Mellotron itself colour the sound coming from the tapes? In
other words, if you were to put, say, Chamberlin 3 Violins and Cello voices onto Mellotron
tapes, and play it back, would it sound like a Chamberlin, or would it be coloured by the
Tron itself? | Start a new topic.
