  Hi Jeff,  You need a signal attenuator at your effects input.  
Does your mackie have a "level trimpot?" I have the Mackie 12 and 4 
channels have control of the gain in.  If not, check your music 
store or the Shack for line attenuators and your problem is 
solved..Doug
