well in all fairness Mark he did say STUDIO sound ( and Tony Clarke wasn't involved with Mike's solo stuff, if I recall.) Mike's sound didn't have that ice-y Crimson/epitaph tone...all of is tron layers had a warmth and nice lush reverb and I'm sure multiple tracks & panning, which would be hard to pull off in a live setting even now, let alone in the 60s/70s. "Have You Heard/The Voyage" on the Threshold album still gives me goosebumps. I really thought back then it was a real symphony (before I knew what a tron was) It sounds like Mike really rolled off the highs and boosted lows on his tron tracks, and as i mentioned nice stereo reverbs and pans. I actually like the tron bits on THE PROMISE...it's just the album songwriting as a whole wasn't up to the expectations I had from a Pinder solo album. Very lightweight, jazzy MOR. --- In Mellotronists@yahoogroups.com, mark kasian <easle12@...> wrote: > > I would say that Mike Pinder and TONY CLARKE have the > best studio recorded Mellotron/Chamberlin sound > around.
