Although I'm a dedicated Korg player, if I recall correctly the JV-1080 series had a "Vintage Keyboards" card available that Keyboard magazine praised highly. I would also imagine that the K2000 could make use of many of the Mellotron libraries that are available as well, so it would seem to me to be a toss-up between the two, although I'd suspect the Roland to be a bit more likely as the source of the sounds. One way or the other, if the player has the common sense (oxymoron?) to play "Mellotronistically," i.e., keeping within the note range of the instrument, obeying the 8-second duration limit, and avoiding things like touch sensitivity and modulation effects, it is very possible to come up with the feel and sonic sense of the real thing. I have some of the most incredibly realistic "Mellotron" patches that I've written for my little Korg X5D's (you have to hear my arrangements for "Nights in White Satin," "Strawberry Fields Forever," "Epitaph," and "Court of the Crimson King" to believe it!) and that instrument has NO facility for importing samples. I am using strictly the built-in waveforms, and emulating as many of the idiosyncrasies of the Mellotron as is possible, particularly the ones mentioned above. Jon E Salley MiloJohnson@...
