One thing to keep in mind about the Tomita stuff: The strings and choral sounds are all Mellotron through a Moog 904 filter. I was told that by Keichi Goto at a NAMM show a few years ago and he was Tomita's assistant for many years. Bob Moog was the best man at Keichi's wedding. He also told me that Tomita used to put BABY POWDER on his tapes when he had trouble with them!!! Of course this led to many disasters, but must have worked for the moment. Even with the tron being used, those records are completely amazing. Keichi taught me how to patch what Tomita calls "the popo voice". It's a tricky patch that he used for solo vocal type sounds like the one at the beginning of Mars and Ballet of the Chicks in their shells.
