Taillights re-visited

Taillights re-visited

2002-05-08 by mcaqmd

Hi all,

Maybe I missed a post. Did we decide which car the rectangular
taillights come from?? I'm talking about the pre-72 rectangular
taillights, not the 1980's style which appear longer.

Lost a WIPAC (manufacturer) reversing lens last Sunday on a nice
spirited drive and found a replacement at Speedy Spares (in UK).

I don't think I ever heard where they came from.
Even though my car is an 84 it still has the same tail lights as the
early 3 liters, so I am definitely interested if anyone knows!

Hello Jeff
I do believe the tail lights that you refer to are "Hillman Hunter" (Routes group).

It is also possible they could be from a Triumph if they are rectangular with an angled end. Any one have a picture?

Cheers,
Dave.

Dave,

They don't have an angled end, just flat. Take a look at mine on Jeff's
Marcos Maniacs site under "registry":

http://www.greyraven.tzo.com/MarcosManiacs/photogallery/Don%20MarcosRear
.JPG

It's a pretty good pic. Also Vic Foster's car has the same. I can't
find a rear view picture of a Hillman Hunter on the whole web!!

You can also see them pretty well on my car as well.

Don and I do indeed have the same ones.
The inside portion is for the brake/ running lights, the middle section
(the flat looking part) is actually just a reflector, and the end
section is for the turn signals.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Taillights re-visited

2002-05-09 by pauldransfield@iname.com

Guys,

I also have those same taillights (see our web site). I got a spare used set
at the local Ancaster British sportscar fleamarket and show a few years ago.
I've seen them for sale each year since, though the set I saw this year was
in poor condition, with a crack in one of the lenses. It appears that they
were used on a number of full production cars built around the late sixties.
I don't have the details of makes and models though Hillman does ring a
bell. I've been told that they are quite easy to come by in British scrap
yards.
