Heater questions again plus master cylinders

Heater questions again plus master cylinders

2001-08-29 by Bob Magnotti

MarcosManiacs,

Does anybody happen to have a picture of how / or what attaches to
the bottom of the firewall that attaches the fresh air intake to the
heater box? Is it just some sort of bracket that attaches a hose or
is there some sort of plenum? On my car the Smiths heater box is
mounted over a 6 inch hole that is cut in the firewall but I cannot
see where anything was attached to the hole in the firewall.

Another item that i am concerned about is the master cylinder box.
When I purchased my car I discovered that large amounts of heat would
blow through the large hole in the firewall where the pedals come
through. I solved this problem temporarily by stuffing foam rubber
around all the edges of the box. Once I did this the car became
almost comfortable to drive. What solutions have other members of
the group come up with to seal this area of the firewall?

I also had problems with the large hole through the
firewall by the pedals. This was fine in the UK but
became insufferable in the southern california
sunshine, with no air conditioning. I stuffed
fibreglass around the edges of the box (more durable
than foam) but have not yet found a permanent
solution. I have often pondered on fashioning some
kind of boot to wrap around the pedals to block the
airflow, but it's so difficult to work down in the
footwell area once everything is assembled.
Any other suggestions are welcomed

Hi
The first thing I did was wrap my headers in Thermo-Tec (a heat barrier
material).

Hi Bob,
The attachment for the heater ducting for my car is out of the car
sitting on the work bench so I will take a picture of today and post
it tonight. It is a flat plate with a short piece of 3 inch round
"tubing" brazed to it. No big thing and could be replicated easily.
The early Marcos cars (Like mine)had a fiberglass box that completely
enclosed the pedals sealing out all the heat. The box had a lid for
servicing the master cylinders. I'll take a picture of that and post
it this morning because the car is at home (the heater attachment is
at the hanger)
