New wheels and other "weighty" issues

New wheels and other "weighty" issues

2002-02-01 by marcos18001966

Hi group,
I have posted a picture of my Marcos with its new wheels and tires.
Not visable is the front suspension rebuild and new springs on all 4
corners. I also took the car down to be weighed. It cost me $10
dollars to have the car weighed at a certified public scale. I
forgot to take the car jack but I had the car weighed with a full
tank of gas, spare tire and rim, and all the other vital fluids.
The advertised weight of this car is 1,700 pounds. My car deviates
from stock with a roll bar, oil cooler, glass rear window, and
different wheels. With all these additions the Marcos weighed...
drum roll please.... 1,780 pounds "all up" and ready to roll. Not
bad! The "weighmaster" couldn't believe how light the Marcos was.
The weather has finally improved in California so I have been
driving the Marcos to the airplane hanger for the past couple of
days (75 mile round trip). It felt nice to be on the road again.
Best regards,
Mike Denman

Hi Dave,
The wheels are made by Panasport. The "Back Spacing" in 4 1/4 inches (different from offset) and the width is 7 inches. As a side note, most of the wheel manufacturers are getting away from using the term "wheel offset" since people get confused about postive offset vs. negative offset and how to measure the offset etc. Instead, the manufacturers want to know the width of the rim and the back spacing. Back spacing is the distance from the mounting surface of the hub (that point where the inside mounting surface of the rim meets the outside mounting surface of the hub) to the inside edge of the rim. If they have the width of the rim and the back spacing, then the off set is already defined using whatever method they use.

Marcos Maniacs Site update!!

2002-02-02 by Jeff Caraway

Hi All,

I wanted to let everyone know that I have updated the site and added quite a few new cars (27 to be exact!) to the Marcos Registry including several of our newest members.

The much awaited picture of Paul Dransfield217;s very cool Volvo engine is now on his feature page.

There’s another edition of the Project of the month, thanks to Mike Denman (who just got some cool wheels for his ride!).

Some corrections and additions were made to Jack Myer’s Feature page. (Apparently I was smoking something when I gave his engine specs!)

I added another advertisement to the classifieds and created a whole new section called “WorkshopR21;.

And I still have tons of material I haven’t had time to add (Please be patient folks, I will get to your stuff!), so keep checking in for some very cool additions in the near future.

BTW… a question for the group. I have been thinking about getting rid of the Photo Gallery since all of those pictures can be found elsewhere on the site (and I never think to update it anymore).

So please cast your vote:

Axe that nasty Photo Gallery

Keep my beautiful Photo Gallery

Thanks to everyone for the enormous amount of input you have given to make the site really great!

As usual, if you see something wrong, something I overlooked, or want to add more material, please email me off-line at DovenWolf@carolina.rr.com

THANKS!!!

Jeff
