Steering wheel?

Steering wheel?

2002-01-14 by Dan Orie

Did Marcos ever have a standard steering wheel for any of their cars? Was it
black leather or wood-rimmed, flat or dished, what type of hole or slot
pattern in the spokes, etc.
Just curious,
Dano

I believe they used a variety of aftermarket wheels. I found a replacement
for my gullwing which is almost a match. The replacement happens to be a
1968 vintage Les Leston product (the spokes have holes - the orig did not
but all other dimensions are the same.

A few years ago I approached Moto-Lita about having a reproduction of the
original made, since I had acces to borrow one, but they declined since the
wood rim was unsupported. Today's all have an aluminium rim with the wood
bonded and/or riveted on.

Yes,
In fact in the Road and Track review I have from the 60's says that the only mention of wood from the factory was of the wod steering wheel - no mention that the car it was in also had a wood chassis. Perhaps for the moment the folks were a tad shy. If people want I could scan and post the 2 articles from 1965 and '68.

Hello Dano
The original Steering wheel for the 1800 GT was Triumph Spitfire,
it had a wooden rim, was dished and had if my memory serves me three hole spokes.
If you require exact detail I can mail you a photo' I have one in my garage.
Regards Jac.

Hello again Dano
Re: the steering wheel ,
There is a Company in England called Rimmer Bros'.
This company still markets the wood rim steering wheel that was used on the 1800 GT's.
They are around £45 plus p&p,.
If you require the address let me know, your only a mail away.
Regards Jac.
