Windscreen fits

Windscreen fits

2017-07-06 by hide809rig169@...

In the final process of correcting #8001 poor windscreen fit. Fiberglass windscreen area on body had moved through the years, not allowing the windscreen to fit correctly. After time and work, close to having the old windscreen fit correctly into body. Question, new front screens, do they fit? Will the body need to adapted to fit the new screen? I have ordered two new windshields through a group buy, curious what others have experienced on fits (my windscreen is cracked and in poor condition, but has held it's shape, I hope). Thanks in advance, not looking forward going through this again on yet another windscreen.

Steve,I have had problems fitting 3 different screens in my own car. I expected a problem the first time as the car was totaled and did not have the roof or right side in tact when I bought the wrecked car home in 1972. When I re assembled the car, I bought a new screen from the factory and made the roof and 'A' pillars fit the glass. Cracked on the final fit after painting the car. Bummer. Made a mold then drape formed an acrylic screen which I used for 2 years. Had a new screen delivered and had to re shape the opening. Fast forward; that screen developed cracks over a 12 year period while the car was in storage. Did a total body off restoration between 2002 and 2007. Ordered a new screen and had to reshape the opening once again.I have since removed and re installed that screen 7 or 8 times as it is the easiest way to work oh the problems created by the 'INVENTOR OF DARKNESS' behind the dash, without any problems. Let it be noted; the screen that is in the car now is a heated one that has thousands of tiny wires laminated between the glass layers. Two of the other cars that I have recently restored had to be totally re shaped to fit their original screens as the cowl on both cars had receded almost 3/4" lower that the glass.Good luck, my friend.
Regards,
Larry

Larry,
Thank you for the reply. As per our conversations, the cowl on my car has sunk at least 3/4 of an inch. I have been using the windshield that came with the car for fitting, as new windshields are hopefully on order. As of now, my windshield fit is on. I have been filling and will soon primer the windshield area. The problem is; When new windshields arrive, they have to be fit to the body again? Is the fit an issue of where the windshields come from or? If this is the case, we should all stock windshields as every car will be unique as well as the glass. Is the back window also a problem?

The windshields are also used on a Lancia Stratus so I would think the difference is in the Marcos bodies, not the windshield. Last year I installed a new windshield on my Marcos 1800 and it fits pretty well. The cowl area below the bottom edge certainly wasn’t perfect to the body. However, these bodies are not vey symmetrical and there is a lot of variation, side to side. My car came originally with a plexiglass rear window and a number of years ago I decided I would replace the plastic window (which was full of distortion and wasn’t the original rear window) with a later model glass window. The glass window didn’t fit the contours of the body at all with the top corners being especially bad in terms of fitting the contour of the body.

Mike,
Thank you for the reply. Questions if possible; Where did you get the windshield? Did you use the Marcos gasket or use adhesives to install the windshield? How did you adapt the opening for fit? Perhaps more details off line if possible? I am considering primering the windshield area next week, might want to delay primer until I obtain a new windshield.
Once again thank you, Steve V. #8001

Mike,
Thank you for the time, cannot do a private message to contact you again. Perhaps need to look into having windscreens made in the USA?
