Whoops, I forgot to attach the photos.

Hello folks,

Happy Friday the 13th.

Here's a bit of a mystery hopefully some of the smart ones on the list can
help solve. After lining up the bonnet on the car and installing the front
suspension, there are major clearance issues. I sending a long a few
pictures to show how too far to the front the wheel is is the fender
opening. When pointed straight ahead I can't even insert a finger into the
tightest part of the gap. And that's without the weight of the engine and
transmission which are still out of the car. Its so far forward that on
almost full lock, the wheel runs under the headslight housing and trie to
push the hood up. It was close when I took the car apart 30+ years ago,
but not this bad. What have I done wrong???? All suggestions for a fix are
most welcome.

Danny,

Could you send some pictures of the upper and lower control arms and shock absorbers (both sides)?

Regards,

Larry

Danny,
Check your lower control arms and be sure that there is a triangular tab on the forward arm on left and right sides. This is a mounting point for a stabilizer bar used on the Triumph but the Marcos only used the bar on racing cars and not street cars. It must be on the forward arm to locate the wheels in the correct location.
The 2 pics are the best I can do without removing the wheel liner. the1st is the left side from the front lookong aft and the other is the right side.
You might not be able to see what I am trying to show you and my car is the steel frame 1970, but the attach points are similar.

Best Regards,
Larry

Danny,
Also, the arm with the most bend must be in the forward position.

Larry,

I went and saw the car today. I think I already have those brackets. I’ll sort through todays pictures tomorrow for you to look at. A chassis guy came in today and spent quite a bit of time scratching his head. Its clear the wheels have to come back about 2”. But the bonnet and the main body align and close perfectly and the tabs are on the front lower a-arm. So, its hard to figure out what has been altered from the factory dimensions so that that could be undone and done right.

Danny,
Measure the distance between the forward foot well and the vertical steel tube of the sub frame. If it is the same as the required distance needed to place the wheel back, I think that the problem might be in the mounting of the sub frame. Do you know how the mounting bolts were located. Has the wood in the foot wells been replaced?
The measured distance from the upper part of the firewall to the center of the upper trunnion should be 27 3/4 inches (at least that is what the steel frame cars are, and sense the wheel base is the same on both cars, I have to believe that measurement would also be the same). Has the motor been in the car sense you have had it?

Best Regards,
Larry
