Trunk/boot latch assembly

Trunk/boot latch assembly

2012-08-12 by steve

Back to work on #8001, Marcos must have been in a hurry on this car, body work is not the best. Inside trunk latch? I know the outer is from an MGB, what is the inner latch assembly? What hangs from the trunk lid? Also, I would like to get in contact with 2.8 V-6 Cologne engine owners, curious what the engine compartment looks like and modifications. Also, 8001 and up instrument panels, how are they mounted? What do they look like? Larry Meadows, you still have molds for bumpers? What about headlamp covers? I have all kinds of questions as the body work continues. Thanks in advance. Steve V. Marcos in Arizona

Steve,
I do have the front bumper mold. I can fab the rear molds from my car later in the fall, if needed.
I can send you patterns for the boot lid catch and you can make one or have one made localy. You might contact Rory at Heritage to see if the price would be less than having one made.
The headlight covers from Heritage are less that I can have the made here. The last ones I did were 30.00 more for me to have formed than Rory gets with shipping.

Best Regards,
Larry

Aw: [MarcosManiacs] Trunk/boot latch assembly

2012-08-12 by Baufi-Fey@web.de

Hi Steve,
did take for another Marcos owner pictures from the inner latch assembly, he lost the parts during restaurotion and he die rebuild the parts on his own. If the pics will help, let me know.
Concerning the instrument panels not sure what was fitted to V6 cologne Marcii, but we have several patterns from different Marcos models and the moment you have a picture we can
have a look if one of these will fit. Several marcos types did use the Jaguar instruments and switches, were all fitted together on one panel. I think we have one as spare.
Good luck for the restoration

Larry, Thanks for the response. Yes I am interested in bumpers, would save me time, I have pieces of bumpers now. I think you had some type of fastening device for the bumpers also as I recall. Need the trunk latch also, would be interesting to see what I am up against to fabricate one. Maybe pictures to start? Is the housing fiberglass? Fall would be perfect for bumpers. I "glassed in" the sunroof hole, still working on the roof contour, I will get it. Plan is to use the 2.8 Ford V6 Cologne with some go fast modifications, a 5 speed and......air conditioning. Should be a fun project. I want the car to look like and be a Marcos, not a race car or custom. Thanks for the help. Steve V. Marcos in Arizona

This is quick service! Thanks! Yes I would be interested in pictures of the latch, also of the instrument panel if not a problem. Will e-mail Rory about the latch also. There are many more questions to come on this car. Once again thanks, looking forward to pictures. Steve V. Marcos in Arizona

Larry, Not sure what I am looking at with your pictures. The pictures show the trunk lid latch? Attached to the trunk lid latch is? What attaches to the MGB button that remains on the body? On the trunk lid are there threads built in, to mount the latch? Thanks again. I need to get back there and work on the Marcos. Having too much fun doing this research. Steve V.

Re: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Trunk/boot latch assembly

2012-08-12 by larry meadows

There are three mounting hokes in the boot lid, I used Rivnuts in the holes but rubber 'jack nuts morm fine.
The picture of the assy. is a mount bkt and a striker (the piece shown with nut, bolt and washers is removed to show the seperate parts). The side view of the bkt alone shows the offset.

Re: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Trunk/boot latch assembly

2012-08-12 by larry meadows

Steve,
This is a poor shot of the body side. It is a fiberglass piece with a metal latch and spring enclosed. I could make a mold and cast you a part if Rory doesn't have them. The metal latch ps a simple to fabricate part. The spring is a bit tricky, though. I can send you drawings of the latch and spring.

Best Regards,
Larry

Re: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Trunk/boot latch assembly

Steve,
If you already have the 60 degree V6 and 5 speed, go for it. Otherwise, consider the aluminum V8 Rover 3.5 or 3.9 out of Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover. The TR7/8 5 speed overdrive bolts up, and Marcos used these engines in the 1980's along with the V6. Any old Ford Ranger will have your V6 a/c compressor and brackets.
The Rover/5 spd is the setup I am using.

Re: Trunk/boot latch assembly

Donny, The Marcos came with the 2.8 Cologne V6. Should be no problem obtaining a "93" or later Mustang long input shaft T5 transmission(I hope). Concern is hood to carburetor clearance with a 4 barrel carburetor. I need to look at the Ranger AC compressor mountings, might mount too high. I have considered the aluminum V8. Once an engine swap starts there could be no end. What about the oil pan on the aluminum V8? Do they use a special shallow pan? Thanks, Steve V. Marcos in Arizona
