New Member Mantara questions

2009-11-07 by Geoff Semler

Hello,

I am new to this group and own a 1996 3.9L V8 Mantara, live in Hampshire,
UK and many years ago owned a 1972 Volvo 3L. I have a few questions which
hopefully someone will be able to answer for me:

What is the best engine oil to use?
What is the best gearbox oil to use?
Where do the front track control arm inner bushes come from?

I also suffer from the engine failing to consistently returning to the
correct tickover, but it looks like this is known about and does not appear
to have a simple solution.

TIA

Hi, had the same problem on my Efi Mantula, replacing the idle air control motor helped, however I also had a problem with the tracks on the throttle position sensor, and again another e-Bay bargain got me a replacement (a Land Rover part).

However if you are based in the UK, there is a forum for Marcos owners who are a good source of advice on local suppliers (even though they are happy to have Marcos owners fro anyone in the world join and say hello). It is not affiliated to any club.

Thanks Steve,

I am on that forum but sadly have not found out how to post a new subject
on it. Maybe its me but it appears I can reply to existing ones but not
post new, do you know the trick?

Regards
Geoff

UK based Marcos Forum access :

Did you register in Yuku? - click the Getting Started button top right. It shouldn't be an issue. Non-members can view threads, I didn't think they could reply. However I don't understand the overlaps with other sites like facebook, hotmail etc. Maybe some other guru can explain.

I did try cleaning up my idle air control, but didn't clean inside where it fitted - but with 66,000 miles on the car I let it have a new one anyway.
