Spam

2005-08-17 by Richard Porter

Hi All,

I seem to be getting a lot of html only messages apparently from a
German address (Baufi-Fey@...) but with subject headers from the
list. These are getting deleted by !AntiSpam as probable spam or
Microsoft virus messages.

In any case the list server shouldn't be sending me html messages when
I've opted for text only, but I suspect that somebody on the list has an
infected Microsoft Windows computer.

If the messages are genuine would the sender please sent plain test or
mixed format messages and not html only.

Richard

Richard,

For some reason this message from you was blocked on my computer as
spam. None of the others have been blocked! The messages you mention
are from Christian (CF Mantula) and my computer receives them OK.

I get the digest format, and Christian's messages always say "This
message is not in a displayable format", so something must be
upsetting the Yahoo groups bit as well. However, if you logon to
Yahoo Groups to view the messages on the website, everything displays
OK. All very strange.
Any mails that Christian sends me direct to my own email come through
fine, so I don't think he has any virusy things.
Don - maybe your message from Richard was blocked because it had Spam
as the subject? - so maybe this one'll be blocked too?? (I'm sending
this from Yahoo Groups rather than my email.)

Cheers,

Yes, it looks like they're genuine messages. Sending html only is
possible although not best practice. It usually arises with webmail
using some versions of MSIE on Windows. I believe you can change the
settings to avoid this.

The text/html rule traps more spam than any other rule by a long way so
I'm leaving it in! Having "spam" in the subject isn't a problem but I
believe some filters add it to flag up probable spam messages.
