Marcos Lurker
2003-10-07 by Dave
Howdy, I've been a lurker in this group for a while and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Dave nad I live in a suburb of Minneapolis - not too far away from Paul Weidner. I have tried to contact him by IM, unsuccessfully, to see if I can take a closer look at his Marcos. I'll try e-mail next time :-) I've been following the news and updates from the various members of this group and looked at many of the beautiful Marcos pictures on this web site. I can't believe the membership and Marcos's from all over the world. Sadly, I am not an owner of a Marcos. However, I think the way I know about Marcos's will be of great interest to the group. One of my Dad's very first jobs after his apprenticeship was with Marcos. He worked in their Bradford-on-Avon "factory" (where I went to school for 6 years) building the wooden chassis for the two Dennis Adams designed "GT" cars. He worked there from early '63 to mid-64 (they just switched from the gull-wing doors to the normal doors just before he joined), including building their two show cars for the January '64 sportcar show. He also worked on a few of their racing cars too, including one that went to Germany for racing (I forget the fellow's name). This is also where my Dad became very good friends with the gentleman who worked on the upholstery for all the Marcos cars. At that time they put the Cortina engines into the car with a four speed gear-box. He even remembers the development and operation of the fibre-glass moulds for the hood (bonnet) and trunk (boot). My Dad has a picture of the Team from late '63 or early '64. If I can get my hands on it I'll scan it in and send it to the group for display. He also has a Marcos tie and cuff-links with the Marcos insignia. Good to meet all of you in the group and happy motoring!
