Long distance trips

Long distance trips

2003-08-19 by Mike Denman

I just got back from a car show in Olympia Washington yesterday. The
total milage for the trip from my house in Watsonville, CA was 1,540
miles. Has anyone taken a longer trip in one of the older Marcos
cars? Say pre 1972... Regardless of the length, why don't all the
members post their longest trips. By the way, I made the trip back
in 12 hours and 15 minutes (counting gas stops etc).... averages out
to 62 mph! Bob Moreno was at the show and a Volvo he had restored
won its class as I recall. Bob does nice work and is very talented.
Gary Madson who owns a Marcos 1800GT like mine was also at the
show. Gary's car is a project that he is making into a Vintage race
car.

Mike,
Did Gary Madson happen to give his hometown or chassis #? Long shot but............
My longest trip was 960 miles in 3 days.

Hi Don,
The Marcos in Pleasanton didn't have a chassis plate. I don't know Gary's hometown or chassis number but I will ask him the next time I talk to him. I went through Willits last Thursday on my way to Olympia Wa... nice town.

Hello Mike and every one.
Many years ago, Dave Rattee organized a run through Europe,( I don't know if he still owns it, but David did own the Marcos race car) to Switzerland. We visited France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Luxemburg, Austria and Belgium, not necessarily in that order. We visited the Schlumph museum, and the Ferrari factory at Modena. In Switzerland we met up with Marcos people from Switzerland, Holland and Germany. We met a lot of very nice people, and I think that I could say it was one of the best holidays that I have ever had. It took three weeks and we travelled over 3000 miles.
From memory I averaged 38 miles to the gallon.
Regards Jac # 4057 1800GT.
