Don, Similar to what Dave said, when I had my MARCOS 3.0 Essex, I converted to an alternator. The main problem, of course, was finding an application that would allow for bonnet clearance. I took mine to an auto electric specialist and he installed a small Toyota alternator. He used a universal bracket that allowed for adjustments. In hindsight, the wiring didn't look that difficult, although I am not a great electrician and am glad I contracted out on that one. The conversion was well worth the effort though as it cured many electrical gremlins that I had w/ the generator.
