Stephen and Richard,

I agree with your advice.  However my man in California had already been to the Government Department when he was trying to check-out the car and did not even know what it was. So it was a done deal when I got to it.
Anyway it will be good to have the old racer back in the UK again.

How would KA-KA-lafornia even KNOW it has a wood chassis?

Never volunteer information to a Gov. Org. official of any sort!

All they should see is a Vin number and year of manufacture, any wood  
chassis Marcos is old enough it should be exempt from their BS.
