RE: [MarcosManiacs] Rubber

2003-03-13 by pauldransfield@iname.com

Hi Dave,

There was some sort of cushioning material placed between the chassis and
body but I don't know what it is/was. I would imagine (at least I would
hope) it would not be made of foam because that would hold moisture and
promote rust.

There is a broad cushioning material where the bonnet rim meets the slot in
front of the windshield. I replaced mine last year with something from
Canadian Tire but it doesn't do the job properly because it's too thin and
compresses too easily. The original was made of a tough dense foam but it
was 20 years old and looked worn. I'm looking around for something more
appropriate but haven't found anything yet.

The motors used for the electric windows are from a Jaguar (Mark X I think,
I'd have to look it up).

The interior door handles on the later of the earlier cars come from the
MGB. I replaced one after the plastic handle snapped a few years ago,
sourced from Penninsular in Oakville.

OK Guys down to the nitty gritty.........on the steel chassis cars
was there a rubber gasket on all the members that the body shell sat
on. When I removed the shell from the frame origionally I do remember
a draft seal kind of foam on a couple of tubes but not on all........
maybe it had decintegrated over the years.
Also, obviously there is a trunk seal that sits in the trough
surrounding the "boot" sorry!.....is there supposed to be a seal
where the bonnet comes down and sits in the slot just in front of the
windshield as well as where it comes down and meets the top of the
fenders. As far as the door seals go I will be using a generic bubble
seal as used on the 80's and 90's GM's.
One other question does anyone know the origin of the electric
window cranks I am in need of one.........on the suybject of interior
door release handles I have an excellent source of British parts up
here in Canada and I have been told that the Ford Prefect possibly
used the same handles as the Marcos, I should find out if they will
work by next week if they do I will let you guys know .
Pics of finished painted shell to follow.......finally
            Cheers Dave #5577
