How to add new EXS24 samples (from Logic 6,7)

How to add new EXS24 samples (from Logic 6,7)

2008-04-27 by pete_buchwald

Hey guys,

I had a gig this morning and couldn't get my favorite Logic 6 & 7 samples loaded up in the
Logic 8 EXS24. Anybody done this?? I used to be able to wrestle through it in version 7
using the "EXS24 Sample Editor" I believe it was called.

I love the "Warm Pad" from version 6. I'll have to post it in the "files" section.

Hope you all are doing well ...

               Pete

Are you talking about instruments (.exs) or the samples used to make
instruments (.wav, etc.)?

If the instruments aren't showing up, make sure they are in the new
location where L8 keeps instruments:

Library - Application Support - Logic - Sampler Instruments

If you're talking about samples used by instruments, it should be
finding those automatically, wherever they happen to be residing.

...... bummer .... that didn't work! I really thought it would. Feel free to upload the
"WarmPad" from the Files section. See if you can get it working somehow. I've about
exhausted my ideas.

    Thanks for any help,

         Pete

But Pete, you've only uploaded the instrument. The instrument loads
fine into Logic, but it won't make a sound without audio files to
point to. I still have the audio files from Warm Pad on my HD, so it
plays fine for me. Do a search on your HD for the following file name:

PDWARM36.aif

That's one of the samples that this "instrument" points to. If you
don't have it then your samples were deleted at some point. I have
zipped them together and am uploading them to the files section of
the group website in the folder along with your instrument. Put that
folder somewhere on a hard drive, and you should be able to use the
Warm Pad instrument again.

Figured it out.

Page 426 of the Instruments and Effects Manual for Logic Studio got me where I wanted to
be.

The sample isn't working yet, but ... at least I'm in the ballpark I wanted to be in.

The answer:

Open the EXS24 sampler. In the upper right click on "edit." Then the sample editor that
used to be accessible in Logic 7 under the main menus of Logic ("EXS24 Sample Editor" I
think it's called in 7). Then in the sample editor go to "open" and try navigate or search
for a favorite old Logic sample from Logic 6, etc.

Then "Save As" in the EXS24.

Then when you are using the EXS and go to open a sample, your created patch will be
right there.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
