using compression

using compression

Hi - I am sending a bass track to the compressor via a bus. I was
wondering if I should have the send from that channel at the maximum
going to the compressor or not?

Thanks

David

Hmmm let me see if I understand this correctly.
you are sending a bass track to a buss using aux sends.
its better to send the whole track to the buss. Meaning, change the
output of your bass track to buss 1 or buss 2 wherever your
compressor is, instead of sending it as an aux.
Sending the bass as an aux can mess with your mix because it will
double your signal one will be the compressed bass and the other will
be the uncompressed bass.
Hope this clarifies somewhat, that is if I got the question right.
Good Luck

I think a compressor should be an insert on a single channel in this case. Unlike a reverb or eq, a compressor reacts to the total signal and in fact its that reaction which makes the compression. In fact if you send only 25% of a signal on the bus, then its not even enough signal to make the compressor do anything. I put a compressor on the overall output mains, but that is to affect the entire mix in a subtle way.

sorry to bother..new to the discussion board and I left a message about getting help on the best places to start using logic. I left a post but got no response but continue to get emails of people helping each other. Did I post it wrong? Please help, new to the DAW world and really need some advice. thanks brad advanced2@...

I just started with logic express a few weeks ago. I
got a copy of the book "Logic Pro 7 and Logic Express
7"
by Martin Sitter. It was really excellent. It comes
with a DVD with all of the files and walks you through
a project step by step, so you get a pretty good idea
of how to start the recording process and a lot of the
functions in the program. I got it off Amazon.

You need to post specific questions. And try not to post things that
are easily found in the manual.

Forums are free and open- usually this is a great place to get help,
but you are never guaranteed help.

This DVD really helped me get into Logic:

It's $99 bucks- I can get you a copy if you email me off list...
