I don't think so. I think you have to go through a big hassle, and change your preferences to force separate L and R then save the file, then change prefs back, then reopen the L or R file alone.
When I am recording guitar with two mics, instead of recording stereo, I record mono to two separate tracks. Then time correct the start points of each, and you don't have to worry about phase and all that.

Instead of the sample editor use the audio window- select the stereo files you want to split from the Audio File pulldown choose copy/convert make sure

Did you know that if you click and hold on the stereo/mono button on a channel strip you can choose to play just the left or right side of a stereo track as mono. In many cases this is all you have to do if you only want one side of a stereo file.
Those are some good tips. Maybe I can use those to playback the whole mix in mono too (for preliminary mixing).
