Renewel of harware/software environment

Renewel of harware/software environment

2005-03-04 by wilfried dockx

I'm a composer working at home with Emagics Platinum Logic 3.6 on a
Mac 8600 with OS8 as I do since 1999/2000.
Those days I've purchased the hardware/software all together. Along
with the Mac and the Logic Platinum came:
- Pro Tools 882 I/O Audio Interface
- Opcode Studio4 midi interface

Recently I aquired a G4 and I want to upgrade for Pro7
Can I re-use some of this hardware?

Hi,

The 8600 is of no use.
There is a OS X driver for the Opcode Studio 4:

The following page seems to indicate the 882 has OS X drivers too:

Yeah Kamm I forgot about the drivers too. I know Digidesign made a driver for the Audio Media III but then stopped support on it, and it started acting up.

I have a 7500 upgraded to 150 mhz sitting in the garage that works fine. I am wondering what I can do with it. I hate to toss it in the dumpster after paying $2500 for all the upgrades. I guess there is charity. But I don't think schools will even take such old machines.

I used this same interface Opcode Studio IV with a Mac G4 for some years. (In fact I still have it and am thinking of tossing it out since its worthless to sell). I installed a "stealth serial port" on the G4. It replaces the modem, so you don't drill any holes. It looks completely natural. There is a little board for the modem and you just replace it with the stealth board. Then you can connect the Opcode to the Mac.

In my efforts to get rid of older stuff that might cause problems I eventually replaced it with an Emagic AMT8.

My brother's wife had an old 8600 (I think that was the model number) and I
think she ended up chucking it. It's hard to do isn't it!
