Just to chime in, ever since Logic 8 came out, it drops my Motu 828 suddenly as well. I get 
crackles and pops [probably looking  sync rate] the interface flashes from 44k to 48k and 
gets "stuck'. Sometimes a re-boot helps, sometimes not. Some days it works, some days 
it doesn't. I also use the Motu 828 for my audio out on the mac [watching quicktime, 
streaming iTunes music] the problem happens ONLY in Logic 8. There is not patch [yet?] 
on the Motu site. It's possible that the 828 is unsupported or a low priority since they 
released their newer boxes..
