I am not quite following this. If you have an external synth module, you don't need to cable anything. You just create a multi-instrument, then make sure to click on however many tracks are active on the hardware device (e.g. Kurzweil all 16, Nova 1-6, Nord 1-4, etc.). Then set the midi port to agree with the port the midi cables are plugged into. Then go to the arrange window, and take a midi track, and select the item and midi channel. I don't think there is a record button there - just on the transport, but you can tell without recording, by playing something on your controller keyboard when you have Logic selecting the given channel. For example, if you have a USB keyboard, then hook up an Access Virus hardware synth to port 3 (channels 1-8 activated), then create a track on the arrange page of Logic, hold down the mouse to select Multi-instrument (hopefully you named it "virus' on the environment page so you can find it easier again) and select "Virus > Channel 1". Then play notes on the usb keyboard and you should hear them come out of the audio outputs of the virus. as you change tracks in logic, you should hear the different patches on the virus. > New Logic Express user here...Quick question.
