[Logic_Cafe] Re: Stability Poll

2005-01-04 by Ian Grasso

I will throw my two setups into the mix, first a 933 G4 PowerMac with 1GB Ram 100GB Deskstar, 80GB System disk. Old but still a champ, I run 7 with Mach Five (still doesn’t pass AU validation at V1.2 but works fine anyway) as my most important plug in...also use Reason 2.5, Live 3, and Peak 4 at the same time usually; Lounge Lizard, Crystal, Traktor sometimes. I usually have 10 audio, 5 to 10 audio instruments and two instances of mach five. Can run without freezing on the PowerMac, but my 1.25 G4 PB usually I need to freeze tracks, unless I am running audio off a firewire disk I have. Usually I just transfer files from the PowerMac to the PBs internal drive which is by no means fast enough to keep up with logic 7.

Overall, I have not had a single crash with 7, but I don’t want to jinx myself. Besides the well-discussed bugs(or differences from 6) that everyone gripes about I’m pretty happy with Logic 7. I̵7;ve found that the performance has been on par with Logic 6.4 on the PowerBook and that performance has improved with the PowerMac. The only lingering annoyance is the fact that Mach Five will not pass au validation and that for some reason my detailed marker text on some songs was deleted when I upgraded and won’t even open in Logic 6, but that’s not a huge deal. Also, for some reason, Logic 7 will search for audio objects with strange text(that have never existed) in songs that were originally produced in Logic 6. I think these might be logic’s self backup files or something of the sort. I think that pure 7 files are going to run a lot better in the new product that files that have been brought through 6.1,.4 and now 7.

Good luck to everyone with logic 7( Especially if you’;re having issues).

I have to say that i have had more trouble from my G5 computer (2x2, 2gb ram) than with
logic. I have had ground loops, power supply over heating, and now i have a processor
that is whinning so loud that it wakes my wife in the next room.
Logic 7 when my computer is working seems to work fine. I mainly use it to mix other
artists music and then do mastering. We have a large local hip-hop and electronic music
scene where i live. A lot of people do not know how to mix/master audio, but they write
good music. so they give me there tracks and i mix them for them. It works fine for me. I
haven't had a major crash yet. I have been using it since day 3 of its release.
