GBC H200 laminator, where to buy?

GBC H200 laminator, where to buy?

2005-05-26 by frajopea

I've had it with the clothes iron. Can anybody tell me where to buy
the GBC H200 laminator at a 'good' price?

Thanks

you could also use a fuser from a old printer or copier.
can probably be found for free.

Stefan,

Where can I buy one of those online? if the price is low enough to
justify the work involved in the modification it could be an option
for me.

ebay has them for sure.
You just need a scrapped printer or copier, you could get one of those at
ebay, but i've seen separate fusers there too.
Ask local computer guys, usually one has a broken printer somewhere and is
happy to get rid of it.

As for modification, you only need a simple temperature control circuit,
and a motor.
I use a chicken-grill motor (the variety that rotates the spit). I had a
used one, but i've seen them for less than 10eur new.
The slow motor has the advantage you only need one pass.

You will need to change the pressure on the fuser to allow thick boards,
mine has springs on the front which i simply put into different holes to
change tension.

It depends where you live. they are availible on line and on eBay. the
are also stock items at Office supply stores, like Staples, and Office
MAX in the US.

How much work is required to take the fuser out of an old laser printer
and make it a stand alone unit? Is the power supply from the laser
printer usable, or do you need to use something different? I have an old
Epson Action Laser 1000 that I could cannibalize if it isn't too
difficult.

I bought a H200, 9" wide for $99 at Office Depot in the U.S.A. but look
through the archives, recently there was a mention of it selling for $40 at
a discount place.

dunno, depends on how experienced you are with such things.
I think it took about an hour to mount mine to a board, attach the motor,
and put the temp. control together.

You don't need a power supply, the lamp works with mains voltage. You need
however a low DC voltage to power the temperature control circuit, i use a
small wall-wart.

If you have a printer it is probably wise to get the fuser control
electronics, i just used a solid state relais i had.

I have written short explanations some time ago...

I regularly make 2-sided, not a problem at all.
The lower roller is rubber which you can use strategically, for example if
you want to make component legend over copper the flexibility presses the
toner in between the copper.

I disagree that a laminator is better. They are neither built for the high
thermal mass, nor temperature, nor have the right speed. Also, they are
not free. A fuser is made for fusing toner already.
Nobody is going to convince me any time soon to buy a flimsy laminator
only to hack it up in order to make it somewhat useable.

It is terrible. At Walmart, 29 CAD, that is 24USD, one laminator
with spring at bottom, double side heated. It is the best thing
you need.

200USD to buy one from AD? Forget every other thing, just go to
Walmart with 30 dollar, before it is out of stock. RUN!!! Bring
one to you, I can promise you: you will be astonished, hugely.

In my exprience, laminator must be modified to increase temperature.
Now, I totally didn't touch cloth iron any more. My laminator is
such perfect and powerful pcb tool. For my digital controled
laminator, visit my page:

laser printer's fuser, is heated at single side.
may be not good for double sided PCB

buy a cheap laminator, should be much better
choice.
