Photo-etch PCB made with HP 5P

Photo-etch PCB made with HP 5P

2004-05-28 by leon_heller

I've just uploaded a pic of my latest efforts using an HP LaserJet 5P
to produce photo-etch artwork on tracing paper:

Photos>Leon's>Photo-etch PCB made with HP 5P

PCB material is Fotoboard (fibreglass/paper laminate) and the board
was etched in hot FeCl3 with continuous agitation. It took about 5
minutes. Tracks are conservative - 12 mils.

I'll be tryimng that lead-free solder I mentioned on this board when
I assemble it. It's actually a simple PIC ISP programmer (PARPIC)
driven from the PC printer port.

Nice...

you might consider making tha pads bigger, it will be hard to drill/solder
them.
It might also be that just the hole is too big so it looks a bit odd..

anyway, looks like you could still go down with track with with this
method easily.

Yes, they should be bigger. That's the standard size I use with
commercial PTH boards (60/31.5 mil). I could have put teardrops on
them which would help, but I forgot.

I've uploaded the pic to the Files area, in my Leon folder (pcb.jpg)
so that everyone can see it in its full glory. 8-)

Very nice boards you've made. I hope mine will eventually come out that
good!

Thanks. You have to get each stage of the process optimised. It's very easy
and repeatable after that.
