Hi all, As you know I have been searching for phenolic boards and am still looking. I did find some boards that are going for $10.00 for two including Priority mail. 8 x 12 x 1/16 Seems like a decent price. Should I keep looking ? Dave

This is mail order, at ebay you should get WAY better prices. The prices are from conrad electronic, which is a mid-priced supplyer. You should get them cheaper somewhere. Why phenolic? for milling? I guess you will not be able to knock much off the price for regular buy at a shop in small quantities. You might get it MUCH cheaper at ebay, or if you find someone getting rid of "old" stock elsewhere. I'm sure i bought my FR4 a big lot cheaper (there are also a few phenolic in there, i think, they are darker but i haven't checked for fibers....) ST

I have the impression the white stuff is much more brittle, with much more solid component, while the dark brown stuff seems to contain more resin. Especially the "1 layer of glass on each side and paper between" seems to be the white kind while the older material is more often brown. Have taken apart a lot of TVs etc. with light colored phenolic. Don't worry, you would have noticed if it were teflon ;-) ST

You can easily tell which is teflon from 10 samples even if you never have touched any before. I have never seen or touched a teflon PCB, so the above is assumption, i have only experience with teflon plate. But i am very confident that i would be able to tell instantly if i see it. ST

Hi Dave,
Check this out: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4660&item=3814427354
He's selling FR4 but says to ask if you need something else, might be worth the effort to ask............
Have a great day,

Yes,
I have a T-Tech machine and the FR- stuff dulls the expensive bits
quickly.
btw, I found out that two boards is just under the limit for one
pound priority and each additional sheet is $3.00 plus shipping so we
are close in price.

VERY white boards. The think I liked best was that I could peal the copper off in large sections. Using a PCB router takes a long time to remove copper from the board. Dave . . .

You can easily tell which is teflon from 10 samples even if > you never have touched any before. It is usually only used for Rf circuits (UHF and above) because of it's favourable dielectric properties. It is /horrendously/ expensive. It does not look white when used as a PCB material, brownish really but the colour is difficult to to describe. The surface texture, however is quite unique - and also difficult to describe. Stuart.
