Eagle question: copying libraries

Eagle question: copying libraries

2004-02-19 by joshdewinter

Hi everybody
Another Eagle question for the experts: I so often wish I could
get packages and symbols from one library file to another, thereby
preventing me from having to do a lot of work re-drawing parts in my
own custom library that are right there in another one. I have
looked forever, but haven't been able to find a way to copy or
import/export from one library file to another. Is there?

Thanks

Hmmmm.... That's a tough one.
Here's kind of an awkward workaround:
1) Open the library you want to copy from, and open the package or symbol
you want to copy.
2) Using the group tool, group the entire package or symbol, and then click
the cut button on the toolbar or select cut from the edit menu.
3) Click open on the file menu, and open whatever library you want to copy
the package/symbol to.
4) create a new package or symbol, and paste the package/symbol you copied
earlier into it.

Oops... I just messed with it some more, so disregard the above. I'll leave
it in place as a backup, in case you can't get this new way to work. Here's
the better way:

1) Open the library you want to copy to.
2) In the control panel, expand the library folder and the library you want
to copy from.
3) Find the package/device you want to copy, and right-click on it.
4) Select "Copy to Library" from the right-click menu.

BTW, this doesn't allow you to copy symbols, per se. You can only copy
packages or devices. If you want to copy a symbol, copy the device you want,
and delete the device after you copy it. This should leave the symbol in the
new library.

TTYL...

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
