GBC H220 HeatSeal QuickStart 9.5" LAMINATOR

GBC H220 HeatSeal QuickStart 9.5" LAMINATOR

2012-05-07 by krisfr

I just ordered this unit, any suggestions as to getting it to work with HP printer toner method. I will also be using Photo resist method for finer lines and want to apply the Photo resist film with it. Thanks I am new here but long in the tooth.

I'm not sure it will work. FYI, I do not have this particular laminator, but have tried toner transfer with a few GBC and other brands that do not have a "foil" setting and failed.

A laminator with a "foil" setting is meant to get hot enough to melt Laser toner.

The ad for it says it does not require a carrier. This may mean it does not get as hot as one in which you are meant to use a carrier.

You may need to modify it by adding a temperature control. However, it still may not get hot enough.

Good luck getting the GBC to get hot enough without having to rework temp control. I use an Apache AL13P: http://www.ibootech.com/products/37540/ and shows in stock for $79 - max temp is 379ºF which does pretty good for Toner Transfer.

Most places show this model out of stock.... maybe I should order one for a spare?

Good luck,

Is it the same unit as this? I picked mine up through Amazon.

http://www.pcbfx.com/main_site/pages/products/applicator.html

I use this unit all the time with a Samsung ML-2525 printer and an HP P2055DN. Works fine, no problems at all. I did the simple gear swap as recommended by Pulsar but have not changed the temperature, didn't need to. I use 0.032" boards and pass them through the laminator 6 passes, 8 passes if I have a lot of ground plane.

Yea, it's the same laminator. I have the same printer and laminator and it works fine for me too. If there is a temperature controlled one for a similar price, I'd probably would have bought that one for better control/fewer passes.

Can someone direct me to the modification of this laminator so I can make some great pcbs. I got it in yesterday and it allowed me to use the board that I wanted to. I was concerned that it would not take the board due to the boards thickeness and being double sided and 2oz copper. Thanks for what ever you can show me.

From the Links section under Toner Transfer, Laminators, there is a link to modifying the GBC H200:
http://www.qsl.net/ve2emm/pcb/pcb_mach_mod_e.html

That appears to be the same as Pulsar's writeup of how to modify the GBC H220, essentially just swapping two gears which slows it to 1/4 speed.
<http://www.pulsarprofx.com/special/H-220/>

Jeff modified a GBC laminator with custom endplates, here's the thread:
<http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/message/26962>

It is a bit confusing how Yahoo photos put them in order, but look in Photos:
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/photos/album/0/list>

And look for the albums:
"another GBC laminator mod" results
another GBC laminator mod
another GBC laminator mod

With those quotes, and for some reason there are two folders with the same name. One of them is empty, but I don't dare delete it for fear it will delete both.

Does anyone have a picture or the correct conections to the circuit board inside this machine? I took mine apart, but lost my diagram.
I had hoped to modify it, but it was more than I figured for.

Thanks for your help in advance.
