HELP: D\Side Photo resist pcb

HELP: D\Side Photo resist pcb

2008-07-17 by Howard

Hi
Just had a thought about a board i have to do soon
it needs to have a ground plane on the top side.

Now i have got some d\side photo resist board, and
i was thinking that if i do not expose the side that
is going to be the ground plane to UV, and just develop
it, would that keep it covered so that after etching i
have got a ground plane ??

Thanks in advance for any input

Howard

If it's solid copper, then yes. If it has thu-hole components, then no.

It also depends on whether your using positive or negative resist.

Hi
yes it is solid copper and positive resist pcb
it has thu-hole components, but i can clear these with a
drill bit, the rest of the components ground are to the
top side of the board.

There is a small PC, router like bit you can buy which will remove the copper foil.
Vector Electronics, maybe. It's used for prototyping.

That's how I make RF boards that need a ground plane on one side.

Through-hole parts are OK, you just have to relieve the copper on the ground
plane where the connections aren't grounded with a drill.

One trick I used with a ground plane was to print just the pads on the
ground plane side, but reverse the artwork black for white. That
gives you holes where the pads are, ground everywhere else.
Registration should not be a problem.
