Hi, I want to make a few PCBs only about 15 components, PIC micro, few resistors, caps, leds, etc, so the track spacing is not that critical ( i have read through your posts and you seem to be trying to get the best result down to thousandths etc) But for my project thats not too important! as long as i can solder to the 18 pin pic, that will do (no tracks going between the pins) Can you recommend paper (i have epson c64 inkjet) and materials, developer and etcher? Also where to get these at reasonable price in UK? And finally any tips or pointers to useful websites? Regards Gary

inkjet cannot be used for TT (the cheapest one board process), has to be laser or photocopier... --- Gary <questuk1@...> wrote: > Hi, > > I want to make a few PCBs only about 15 components, PIC micro, few > resistors, caps, leds, etc, so the track spacing is not that critical > ( i have read through your posts and you seem to be trying to get the > best result down to thousandths etc) But for my project thats not too > important! as long as i can solder to the 18 pin pic, that will do (no > tracks going between the pins) > > Can you recommend paper (i have epson c64 inkjet) and materials, > developer and etcher? > > Also where to get these at reasonable price in UK? > > And finally any tips or pointers to useful websites? > > Regards > > > Gary __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hi, yes i realise, thanks, I'm sure that some users, use inkjets to expose, via UV lamp onto photo resist PCBS? Regards Gary --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "Herbert E. Plett" <cachureos@...> wrote: > > inkjet cannot be used for TT (the cheapest one board process), has to be laser

Mega Electronics sells JetStar fim for use in inkjet printers. It's much better than OHP transparency material. You need a UV exposure unit, of course; I made my own for a few pounds. Leon

Maybe it also holds answers for what to get, and where. ST

Hi Stefan, I did spend all afternoon looking through your, Files, Photos..links etc.. and also on google, also i have read on the net that lasers, do not produce dark enough blacks? I did read Leons message about inkjet paper... so i knew it was possible. ....but in the end i felt more confused about the best way to make a PCB. Just needed some clarification etc. Regards Gary --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "Stefan Trethan" <stefan_trethan@...> wrote: > > On Thu, 03 Aug 2006 17:56:38 +0200, Gary <questuk1@...> wrote: > > > Hi, > > I want to make a few PCBs only about 15 components, PIC micro, few > > resistors, caps, leds, etc, so the track spacing is not that critical > > ( i have read through your posts and you seem to be trying to get the > > best result down to thousandths etc) But for my project thats not too > > important! as long as i can solder to the 18 pin pic, that will do (no > > tracks going between the pins) > > Can you recommend paper (i have epson c64 inkjet) and materials, > > developer and etcher? > > Also where to get these at reasonable price in UK? > > And finally any tips or pointers to useful websites? > > Regards > > Gary > > > You kinda did imply photoprocess in your post, but according to the > subject line i'll suggest you look around the links section here if you > are not yet decided on which process to use. Indeed, lasers can have problems with the darkness, mine sure did! You'll need the right films though for the inkjet, and possibly print with yellow color (i'm told it is more opaque to UV than black). Anyway, the people who always complain we do not like the photoprocess enough are sure to come out of the woodwork with lots of suggestions ;-) ST

Hi Stefan, You have me thinking now, my printer does need replacing soon, any ideas if this would do for PCB 600dpi. http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10283218&pid=45&tid=279 Also i look forward to comments on both modes laser & inkjet, as I'm undecided still..but lasers do seem much cheaper now. I posted recently about my use of a cheap HP Deskjet 5940 printer for producing high-resolution transparencies with JetStar Premium film. Leon

They're relatively common, but suffer from glazing of the rubber paper-handling rollers. That's often the reason they're thrown out, but it's very easily fixed by roughening up the rubber rollers with cigarette-lighter petrol (not butane!). I've got an HP LaserJet 4+ that I got from the Bristol FreeCycle mailing list. hello Leon, yes i did read your post on the printer Do you thing the paper would work with other inkjets Or its the combonation of the two that works? Do you have any pics of the finished board? It's not paper, it's film similar to OHP transparency material, but specially made for PCBs. The standard film works with any inkjet that uses dye-based ink, the premium film is needed for pigment-based ink. > > Do you have any pics of the finished board? You can see some of my PCBs in the "Leon's" directory in the Photos section. These were done on my old printer, the new one is a lot better. Leon

Hello Gary,
I'm cheap. Print the layout on paper using your inkjet
printer. Take it to one of the big box office supply stores that do
printing and have them run the paper and the toner transfer film
through one of there machines. Cost $0.07 USD.
Usually, make a number of print outs of boards and glue them all on a
single sheet of paper - fill up the whole thing. That way it only
takes a single sheet of toner transfer film for multiple boards.
This is a great reflector for info. on the what it takes to get good
TT. One of the biggest aids, for me, was realizing I wasn't getting
the PCB clean well enough before applying the TT film. The
suggestions people have posted on how to get the board clean has been
a great help.
