Hi Group
Please let me know where to find an electrical schematics plus HPGL
driving software for a mill/drill
CNC Machine?
Is that $500 electronics ready?
Cristian

Cristian,

Try Eagel CAD from Cadsoft. See: http://www.cadsoft.de/

It has a CAM processor that outputs HPGL (among MANY other formats.)

True Jim, but I need a software to drive a CNC with HPGL, and the
related electronics.
See below.

Lots of it is around, here is a typical example:

Why don't you use g-codes? You can use EMC (http://www.linuxcnc.org) to control step motors of CNC .

There is a program called Kellycam (I think that's right) that will read
HPGL or G code and drive motion control systems.

For G code only look at TurboCNC or Mach 3 by ArtSoft.

All of these have web sites so hit Google.

Mach3 and KelleyCAM work in Windows but TurboCNC runs best in DOS 6.22.

Get the software - it was intended for G-code but
HPGL is convertable if there isn't native support.

There is a HAL (hardware abstraction layer) in
EMC2 that lets you control any electronics realy.

Electrical schematic is depenadant on your motors.

If you don't have the motors aleady then there are
some decisions to make before you go much further.

What kind of mill do you have and what are you
planing on doing with it ?

Bungard's CCD2 intended to be modified (it is not software
modification-friendly) to mill/drill pcbs

Um - the Bungard CCD2

http://www.bungard.com/seiten/p-ccd_2.htm

Looks like it already mills PCBs ???

Anyways - if you do want to run it with your own
software/hardware then it should not be too hard.

Look at the link I sent before about Linux EMC.

It can connect straight to the L297 type
controllers shown here

http://pminmo.com/

L297s are very low tech and pretty dodgy - but
then again that thing from bungard is hardly
21st century with "high torque stepper motors"

If you want to go servo motors do a google
search for

"ELM servo"

and you will find a tidy little atmel servo
controller some nice bloke has done.

One of the guys that does a lot of stuff
with the Linux EMC thing has a BMP to G
code page.

Does not look very Windoze friendly though.

But realy - BMP to HPGL should be a no-
brainer shoudlnt it ? Raster to a whole
lot of horizontal vectors.

www.imagetogcode.com
converts bmp to gcode in Windows

By the way, is Gcode different from Gerber?
Googling I've found that Gcode is RS274D (that means earlier Gerber,
with separate aperture file), but my utility for converting
Gerber to HPGL (to feed my CNC Machine) doesn't recognize it!!
